Product Description

There has never been a Twitter Guide like this.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced, you need to know the basics of Twitter. This book can teach you everything fundamental you need to know. It has both theory and practical guidance. The authors don't tell you what to do in a given situation -- they teach you how to determine what information to use to achieve the effect YOU want.

Success Secrets is not about the ins and outs of Twitter. Instead, it answers the top questions that we are asked and those we come across in forums, our consultancy and education programs.

It tells you exactly how to deal with those questions, with tips that have never before been offered in print.

This book is also not about Twitter best practice and standards details. Instead, it introduces everything you want to know to be successful with Twitter.

Just Plain Sloppy

This book is simply a very sloppy compilation of articles taken from various internet blogs and reprinted in book form. With a little internet detective work you will quickly discover that it is a self published book from the[...] website.

The author didn't even do basic editing on the articles. Here are just a few examples.
1. Some articles still have "click here for more information" links, (page 18, 88, 92)
2. The subheadings in some articles that were originally bold, underlined, or "H3" on the web page have no such treatment in the book (page 122 is one of many examples);
3. One article is reprinted in two places in the book but with a different title on each page (page 32 & 48).
4. Right justification leaves some lines with only 3-4 words stretched out for the width of the page.
5. A bullet list in the original internet article appears in the book (page 123) as one single paragraph. The original "bullets" are replaced by the html character code for the bullet (like this â¢).
6. Many of the articles were originally pitches for "Make Money Now" type of schemes, or "Download $347 worth of FREE internet marketing gifts", and the pitches are still at the ends of the articles.
7. Some chapter titles were not formatted to all fit on one line. Some are hyphenated such as "How To Use Twitter To Generate Traf-fic" (page 125) and the 2nd line has the "fic" on a line by itself.

There is a lot of content duplication. Each author was originally writing for his own blog, and good writing form calls for the opening paragraph to explain what Twitter is, and what it is used for. Since this book is 60+ articles, each from different authors, you get an overdose of explanations about Twitter and its uses.

Some articles do not carry any attribution at all. Some of them carry a Creative Commons License but I did not dig deep to see if each one asked for attribution. Another article was not CC and I have emailed the original author to find out if Mr. Hall had permission to re-publish it.

This book is also quite dated and has some small technical errors. On page 11 the author makes reference to the 84,000 followers of Barack Obama. (777,281 as of today). In two places it is inferred that you can send a "direct" message to your Twitter followers with the format of @username. Technically, a direct message is sent as "d username". @username messages are public, and may not get the attention of the recipient.

So, in summary, the book is a shining example of lazy sloppy editing (or no editing at all) and contains content freely available to anyone on the internet. If there is any original content in the book, Mr. Hall has not given himself attribution for it. I'm sure other readers will find a lot more examples. I gave up after only a few minutes. My copy is going back to Amazon today.
